the official website of session & touring bass player, lex sadler

Lex was born and raised in Perth, Western Australia, in a very musical household. Forced study of the piano at an early age caused him much grief as a child, but provided a solid foundation for his bass playing. It was a high school friend that first introduced Lex to the instrument; he took to it with enthusiasm and practiced day and night until he built some serious chops.

At the age of 19, after playing for only 2 years, Lex was aked to audition for popular Perth Acid Jazz Band, 'Delicatessen'. Lex successfully landed the job, and brought some considerable funk to the role. Once described as a 'perpetual groove machine' by influential street magazine X-press, Lex built a reputation as a solid and dynamic bass player.

Delicatessen had a successful career, producing 2 full-length albums and playing high profile festivals alongside international acts such as The Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Chemical Brothers. Following the break up of the band in 2001, Lex played with local favourites GWAP in what would be a memorable summer residence at La Tropicana Cafe at Cottesloe Beach. Recordings and shows with Perth artist Bianca Jade and a stint on the East Coast with Sydney band The Source were interrupted when Lex paid a 2-week visit to New York City in 2004. He knew immediately that it was the place to be, and travelled home with the intention to relocate.

This didn't happen for almost 3 years; that wasn't to say the time back in Perth wasn't productive. Lex was immediately hired by Brazilian party band, Sambalicious, and enjoyed a marathon weekly gig at The Deen. As an in demand bassist, Lex also performed with Nathan Gaunt, Saritah, Bianca Jade and others.

Even at the busiest time of his career, the lure of New York City was too strong.

Since early 2007 Lex has been a resident of the Big Apple. It didn't take him long to hit the music scene with big strides, playing a number of high profile venues and festivals with Dutch ex-pats EveNi. Lex is set to appear in 2008 with a number of new artists - keep your eye on the gigs page for details.

Lex is now available as a freelance bassist for gigs, recordings and tours. Please contact him for more information.
